Low Profile Cone Top Beer Cans
The first cone top ever produced was a low profile design. It was developed and marketed exclusively by the Continental Can Company.
The cone top featured a design that reduced the overall height of the can and made it easier for breweries to package. The earliest low profile cone tops had a flat bottom. That was soon changed to the more effective concave bottom.
Many breweries started with this design and later changed to another cone top design. Although Schlitz marketed the first low profile cone top, no one is sure which brewery produced the last. Unfortunately the metal shortages of World War II contributed to the end of this cone top design.
